Il Rosso di Montalcino is a wine produced in the area of Montalcino in Tuscany, known above all for the production of Brunello (the name by which the vine Sangiovese). Rosso di Montalcino differs from the latter mainly for the duration of aging. It is in fact a wine young, which is marketed from the year following the harvest.
This wine is produced in Pian delle Vigne estate Family Antinori, which has a centuries-old tradition in the production of wine.
The Montalcino area is characterized by an extremely mild and temperate climate which allows the grapes to ripen earlier than in neighboring areas such as Chianti.

Rosso di Montalcino boasts the Controlled Designation of Origin. It is produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes, vine extremely widespread in Tuscany.
I vineyards they rise at an altitude between 130 and 150 meters above sea level and are mainly exposed to the south-east. The soils tend to be clayey and calcareous, rich in skeleton.
The grapes are harvested in mid-September and after destemming and soft pressing are transferred to stainless steel containers where the alcoholic fermentation at a temperature of about 25 ° C. The time of maceration is 8-10 days.
At the end of the malolactic fermentation the wine is transferred to large wooden barrels. Here begins the refinement which lasts about 12 months. Brilliant ruby ​​red. Notes of ripe fruit, quince and plum jam mixed with floral notes typical of Sangiovese and toasted notes deriving from aging in wood. On the palate it is presented in all its pleasantness, soft, with lively but silky tannins. Its freshness and vivacity of taste are enhanced by a mineral and savory aftertaste, which also enhances the hints of ripe fruit in the mouth.

Story After a few years of experimentation on the vines with the aim of achieving a high quality wine with thevintage 2012, the Rosso di Montalcino is born which joins the production of the other two wines of the estate: Brunello Pian delle Vigne and Reserve Vineyard railway. Tenuta Pian delle Vigne is located 6 km south of Montalcino, above the Val d'Orcia and takes its name from a characteristic 184th century railway station located within the estate. The company consists of about 65 hectares of which about 130 are planted with vineyards with a predominantly south-east exposure and an altitude between 200 and XNUMX meters above sea level.
