The Brunello di Montalcino Reserve it is a wine DOCG, or of Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin, produced in the region Toscana, in the province of Siena.
The Poggio all'Oro vineyard is located south of the Montalcino, at about 250 meters above sea level, in a hilly area, where Sangiovese meets the perfect climate to grow luxuriantly.
Brunello di Montalcino, normal and Reserve, it is produced only with grapes 100% Sangiovese.
The Brunello di Montalcino Reserve Poggio all'Oro from the Banfi winery is produced only in extraordinary vintages, when the quality of the grapes, rigorously selected, is excellent.

After the careful selection of the grapes from the Poggio all'Oro vineyard, the maceration, which lasts from 12 to 14 days. The temperature of the steel vats is meticulously controlled for the duration of the maceration.
After the first phase, the wine matures in French oak barriques to 30 months and then it is bottled and left to rest for others 12-18 months before being placed on the market. The long aging makes this Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio All'oro a persistent wine, with the right balance between softness and acidity. Very intense and deep color, extremely complex, as is typical of Sangiovese. If left to air for a few minutes, it leaves room for very sweet aromas of tobacco, licorice and cocoa. The structure is broad and of great texture: ripe and sweet tannins, well balanced with acidity. Very long, with very persistent mouth aromas. Power and elegance that ensure excellent aging for at least two decades to come.

Weather The climatic trend ofvintage it is to be considered an example from a wine manual. All the phenological phases of the vine took place in the period and in optimal climatic conditions. A rainy winter allowed the soils to do very well reserve water which the plants were then able to draw on during the summer, which had warm but not torrid temperatures. Thanks to the cool spring, the vine developed a balanced vegetation, which it managed to maintain until the grapes were harvested. The presence of rains during the veraison period was fundamental to guarantee the right metabolism of the plant and, therefore, the balanced carbohydrate maturation and that of the polyphenols of grapes. Finally, the good nocturnal temperature variations, during the autumn period, allowed the development of intense varietal aromas. At harvest the grapes were very healthy.
Production technique Fermentation at controlled temperature in steel vats (27-30 ° C) with one maceration 14 - 20 days.

Refinement The wine is aged in wood (3,5 hl oak barrels from Allier, Chers and Troncais) for a period of 30 months.
