The 49 hectares of vineyards that make up Altesino, mostly Sangiovese vines, are located in five different sub-areas of the Montalcino area: two in the north-east (Altesino and Macina), one in the north-west (Montosoli, the company jewel ), one in Sant'Angelo in Colle (Pianezzine), one in Castelnuovo dell'Abate (Velona). The history of this winery has marked some of the most important stages in the winemaking evolution of the territory: in 1975 Altesino introduced the first “cru” Brunello, Montosoli, and in 1979 the first experiments with barriques. The company was born in the 70s thanks to the enterprising passion of a group of Milanese entrepreneurs and since 2002 it has been owned by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, who continues its work with great intelligence. The historical site is the fifteenth-century Palazzo Altesi, built by the Tricerchi family. Among the three marvelous versions of Brunello proposed this year, a close fight between the fresh elegance of Montosoli 2014 and the warmer opulence of the 2013 Riserva, with the “vintage” 2014 version detached by a glue.
